Ravi Nissanka

Ravi Nissanka is a BSc graduate in Physics, Chemistry and Pure mathematics. He is an industrialist and a researcher, an innovator and a technologist in numerous applications in concrete technology.

Ravi is the pioneer in High Performance Concrete Technology in Sri Lanka. He has been in the forefront of the advancement of the mainstream concrete industry in the country. He is a risk taker, initiator, enthusiast and an out of the box thinker who has a natural drive to innovate technologies to the benefit of the mankind.

Apart from the above, he is the pioneer who introduced concrete repair systems, structural waterproofing, polymer applications to the Sri Lankan industry around 3 decades ago.

Commissioning the country’s first admixture manufacturing facility in the year 2003, the first exporter of locally made admixtures to the overseas markets and the commissioning the first PCE mother liquor manufacturing plant and inventing the technology by his R&D team are some of the milestones.

He wishes to share his 29 yearlong hands on experience in high performance concrete technology in hot weather climate.

Since year 1994, he has been involved in full time, in finding solutions for variety of industry needs. Under his guidance and supervision, more than 10,000 actual concrete mix trials in the laboratory and in the field have been conducted and around 6000 such trial data is available for data analysis.

Ravi, as a result of his own research has been able to find behavioral changes of end product as against raw material property changes such as cements, fine and coarse aggregates, water, chemical admixtures such as lignosulphonate-based admixtures, Polynapthalene sulphonate, Polycarboxylic ether etc and mineral admixtures such as fly ash, bottom ash, silica fume, Blast furnace slag etc.

Ever varied needs of the industry as a result of climatic and weather conditions, supply quality fluctuations, country’s economic status, socio cultural practices, city infrastructure, professional practice traditions and the ability to cater to such requirements have contributed to acquire the best possible expertise in the subject.
